The Lived Mishnah  ·  A Zeman Nakat Project
כִּבְשֵׂי עֲצֶרֶת
Introduction · Movement IV
Movement IV — the final part
כִּבְשֵׂי עֲצֶרֶת
The last of the special korbanos.
Where we began
חָדָשׁ
Part one framed the issur.
No new grain until the Omer is brought
Which grains — and where the issur applies
The grain’s quality, and who paid for it
Part two
The ceremony
A deep dive into the bringing of the Omer.
The machlokes with the Baisusim — which day?
Which became a fight over the calendar itself
תְּנוּפָה — waving · הַגָּשָׁה — drawing near
And once the Beis HaMikdash was gone?
Yochanan ben Zakkai’s takkana — the 17th, not the 16th
Part three
שְׁתֵּי הַלֶּחֶם
From the Omer to the two loaves.
Made from the first wheat
The Mikdash waits for these — not for the Omer
Two loaves of chametz, never on the mizbe’ach
Sifted, kneaded, baked
Must the kohanim pay the machatzis hashekel?
And how the loaves were shared out
And now
The two lambs
Brought on Shavuos, with the loaves.
A korban shelamim
The only public shelamim in the year
Waved together with the bread — they are one
What this movement does
First, the shalmei tzibur
Where it is shechted, and who may eat it
Do the lambs and the loaves hold each other back?
Missing the sheep — may the bread come?
Missing one sheep — may the second?
Then
Stages of the avoda
At which point does each prohibition attach?
מְעִילָה — using what is hekdesh
לִינָה — left beyond its time
And the sprinkling of the blood
טָמֵא · נוֹתָר — eaten in tumah, or too late
The heart of it
פִּגּוּל
The wrong intention, at the right moment.
Intent during shechita, kabbala, holacha or zerika
To eat it in the wrong place, or the wrong time
Three cases
Sheep and bread
How a pigul intention crosses between them.
Shecht the lambs intending to eat a loaf too late
Intent on the bread only — or the animals only
The irony — the rest of the avoda must be perfect
Must every matir be intended, or only one?
How far we have come
From chadash, through the Omer and the loaves, to the lambs.
