The Lived Mishnah  ·  A Zeman Nakat Project
מִן הָעֹמֶר עַד שְׁתֵּי הַלֶּחֶם
Introduction · The series
From the Omer to Shavuos
A journey of 46 mishnayos
From the first barley of Pesach to the two loaves of Shavuos.
Before the mishnayos
Three korbanos
Meet them first — the whole series moves between them.
קָרְבַּן הָעֹמֶר · the Omer
שְׁתֵּי הַלֶּחֶם · the two loaves
כִּבְשֵׂי עֲצֶרֶת · the two lambs
The first
קָרְבַּן הָעֹמֶר
Barley, brought on the 16th of Nissan.
A machlokes on which day — the chachamim say the 16th
The first barley of the season, ground to flour
Until it is brought, no new grain may be eaten
This is the issur of chadash
By Pesach the storehouses were empty
The moment it is offered, the new grain is released
The second
שְׁתֵּי הַלֶּחֶם
Two loaves, brought on Shavuos.
After counting the forty-nine days
The only public grain korban made of chametz
Never placed on the mizbe’ach — brought close to it
The third
כִּבְשֵׂי עֲצֶרֶת
Two lambs, alongside the loaves.
A public korban shelamim
The only one in the entire year
Waved together with the bread — one ceremony
How the series is ordered
Four movements
Not the three korbanos — the path through them.
I · Chadash — the issur, and where it applies
II · The Omer — the ceremony, and what it released
How the series is ordered
And then across
The second half turns to the loaves and the lambs.
III · The Shtei HaLechem — compared and contrasted
IV · The Kivsei Atzeres — and the technical halachos
