Directing the heart

Two stories from the Torah

“When Moshe raised his hand, Yisrael prevailed”

Shemos 17:11

Do Moshe's hands win or lose a war?
→ when they looked upward, they prevailed

“Make a serpent and set it on a pole”

Bamidbar 21:8

Does a snake kill, or give life?
→ when they looked upward, they were healed

A cheresh, a shoteh, a katan cannot blow for the public

Restrictivethey do not discharge the public of their obligation. This is the rule:
→ only one who is himself obligated
Restrictivedoes not discharge the public of their obligation.
Women: not obligated — a time-bound mitzvah
One already yotzei may still blow for others
Rosh Hashana 3:8

Who Can Blow the Shofar for Others
