The luf — arum
leaves like arrowheads, a bulb in the ground
Raw, it is poisonouscooked down — a food and a medicine
The bulb lasts up to three years
A foul smell that draws fliesso it was stored buried
In Shemittah: buried to store it — not to grow
Storing luf in the ground: how much, how high?
Rabbi MeirAt least two se'ah, piled three tefachim high, with a tefach of earth on top→ about 17 liters
ChachamimAt least four kav, a tefach high, with a tefach of earth on top→ about 5½ liters — a third as much
A tefach of earth on top — both agree
Where people walk
MishnahIn a place where people tread→ trampled, it won't sprout: it is only storage
Sheviis 5:2
