The tender shoots of the zeradim [shrub] and of the carob,
they have Sheviis, and their proceeds have Sheviis;
they are subject to biur, and their proceeds to biur.
Shoots of the terebinth, the pistachio, and the boxthorn,
they have Sheviis, and their proceeds have Sheviis;
but they are not subject to biur, nor their proceeds.
But the leaves are subject to biur, because they fall from their stem:

This English is a clause-by-clause rendering to help you follow the Hebrew. It is not word-for-word literal, and it is not a transcript of the recorded shiur — the audio carries explanation and context the translation deliberately leaves out.

How do we treat the young shoots of the hawthorn and the carob?Sheviis and biur — they and their money (still soft and edible)
And what of the shoots of the elah and the botnah (pistachio-type trees), and the blackthorn?Sheviis — yes, they and their money; biur — no (they harden into the tree and remain)
And what of their leaves?Biur — yesמִפְּנֵי שֶׁנּוֹשְׁרִין מֵאֲבִיהֶן — they drop off from their parent stem
Transcript
